Any Donkey Can Build A Metasearch

April 6th, 2009 · No Comments

You Donkey ass, mule, originally uploaded by jpockele.

We had a bunch of tripadvisor flights stuff happen last week:

  1. We released a couple of new features (multi-city search and nearby cities) to our product – http://www.tripadvisor.com/Flights.
  2. Kayak also released a couple of features to match our fees estimator and “move to top” features. It looks like an arms race to me.
  3. We won innovator of the year (established companies) from the US Travel Association (this was presented at the conference, and someday maybe they’ll get around to updating their website). Awards are always nice, especially for innovation.
  4. But my favorite event of the week was a quote from Steve Hafner, CEO of Kayak, reproduced in the title of this post. Never mind that Kayak has forty or so donkeys working for them (note: we have 5 working on metasearch, 6 counting our designer), it was a great way to motivate the competition. I’ve posted it up on our wall for inspiration. And even though he was really only talking about flight metasearch, here’s to my friends at ticketstumbler.com and my ex co-worker at pleasedressme.com: Donkey up!
