I had an interesting experience at the bookstore yesterday, a reminder that occasionally human intelligence is a great substitute for ubiquitous computers and networks. I was going there specifically to buy the book “Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan, and being a self-serve kind of guy, went straight to one of those computer terminals where you can search for yourself. I started typing, and got as far as “Omniv…” when a Chapters woman came over, said something about “do you need any… Oh, Pollan… follow me.” As I followed her, she told me that sometimes their system was a little slow. 15 seconds later she pointed out the book to me. A little slow indeed.
